'Brass on Draught' was the second release by the Band and the first under their new sponsors, M & B Brewery (West), with their new name, the Walsall Highgate Band.

Featuring the Cornet, Euphonium and Trombone Sections, it also shows off the soloist talents of Steve Worker on Eb Bass.

It was recorded at Grosvenor Recording Studios in Birmingham by engineer, John R.Taylor.

It was also noted for an interesting start to the final piece 'Tocatta in D Minor' by J S Bach arranged by Ray Farr - the first two bars are missing!

About the Programme...

'BB & CF' - J Ord-Hume (R. Smith & Co. Ltd.) starts the recording off in fine style. This March, originally written for the brass band publication 'Brass Band and Contest Field', hence BB & CF, is a favourite of audiences. This is followed by the very moving, 'Cavatina' - Stanley Myers arranged by Derek Broadbent (Studio Music), before the mood changes completely with a terrific arrangement for the Trombone Section of 'Dem Bones' - arranged by Gordon Langford (Chandos Music Ltd.). Solo Euphonium, John Cox, starts off the huge hit 'One Voice' - Barry Manilow arranged by Ray Farr (Studio Music), followed by a bright number featuring the Cornet Section called, 'Cornets A-Go-Go' - Derek Broadbent (Studio Music). Down into the Welsh Valleys with that most traditional favourite 'Myfanwy' - J Parry arranged by Denzil Stephens (Wright & Round) now follows and the first half of the recording ends with music from that rip-roaring adventure film starring Harrison Ford, 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' - John Williams arranged by Ray Farr (Studio Music).

The second half begins with a classical arrangement, 'March to the Scaffold' - Berlioz arranged by Keith Wilkinson (Studio Music), and then the Band turns to the special talents of the soloist for this recording, Steve Worker on Eb Bass, with a superb performance of 'The Sun has got his Hat on' - Butler/Grey arranged by Philip Sparke (Studio Music). The Band enters the Welsh Valleys once more with 'David of the White Rock' - Traditional arranged by G H Willcocks (Wright & Round) and turns things around again with another classical arrangement of the 'Finale from Faust' - Gounod arranged by Ray Woodfield (Hallamshire Music). Off to the continent and particularly the Bavarian Alps with the fantastic, 'Tritsch Tratsch Polka' - J Strauss arranged by Goff Richards (Studio Music). A time to reflect with the lovely 'Carillon' - Flowers/Gomm arranged by Denzil Stephens (Rosehill Music Publishing Co. Ltd.) before finishing this recording with Ray Farr's fantastic arrangement of 'Toccata in D Minor' - J S Bach arranged by Ray Farr (Studio Music).
