Ice hockey: No. 1's Pelham & Suffern make finals; Mamaroneck upsets Clarkstown 1-0 (1)

Mamaroneck 1, Clarkstown 0

In a Division 1 semifinal game played at second-seed Clarkstown, Max Baker stopped all 37 shots he faced and Kevin Torre scored the game's only goal as six-seed Mamaroneck pulled off the upset.

The goal, scored in the second period, came with Torre tipping and redirecting a shot by Gabe Teitsch.

Tetsch and Matt Montoni had assistson the playfor Mamaroneck, which fell at home3-0 to Clarkstown February 2.

AJ Levy had a strong game in net with 29 saves forClarkstown, which finished the season 18-4-1.

Mamaroneck, now 13-9-1, will face top-seed Suffern for the D2 championship Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sport-O-Rama in Rockland County.

The Tigers dropped two games to Suffern during the season, falling 11-1, then 7-2.

Suffern 6, Scarsdale 0

In a Division 1 semifinal at No. 1-seed Suffern, Ty Levy recorded the shutout, stopping17 shots, and Jack Flatley scored twice and added an assist.

Ryan Schelling had a goal and three assists, Ben Burns had a goal andtwo assists and Charlie Tyrrell and Aaron Schulman also scored.

Wyatt Levy, Patrick Marina and Colin Nolaneach had oneassistfor the Mounties, who are now 17-1.

Max Siegel had had 38 saves for fifth-seed Scarsdale, which finished the season 11-9.

Suffern will play sixth-seed Mamaroneck for the Section 1 Division 1 championship Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sport-O-Rama.

Division 2

Pelham 6, Horace Greeley 2

In a Division 2 semifinal game, Quaker keeper Ben Madden put on a spectacular show, stopping 84 shots, but that wasn't enough as top-seed Pelham scored in all three periods with Mark Rosa and Louie Marcellino both notching a pair of goals.

Griffin Evans and Henry Smith also scored for the Pelicans, who are now 16-2-2.

Eric Elbery had two assists and Jordan Hurd, Reid Finster, Luke Green, Angus Deeney, Ben Rosenberg, Evansand Marcellino each had one assist.

Gabe Adams and Ben Cohen scored for the fourth-seed Quakers, who finished the season 9-11-1,and had fallen to Pelham 11-4 in December.

Ellis Adams had two assists and Cohen had one.

Pelham will play third-seed John Jay-Cross River in the Section 1 D2 championshipSunday at 4:30 p.m. at Sport-O-Rama.

Both teams will advance to the state regionals, since each year one D2 runner-up from a rotating, designated section makes regionals and this is Section 1's year to have two teams in the state tourney.

Stepinac 9, St. Joseph 0

Colin Ingalls had a hat trick and an assist andAnthony Girolamo had two goals and two assists as Stepinac won its last regular-season game to improve to 15-1 in Catholic league play, where it currently sits atop Division A.

Andrew Plank, Kellan Higgins, Luke Nestor and Luke Walsh also scored.

Wasyl Krawec and Andrew Costa both had an assist.

St. Joseph netminder Shane Coffey had 37 saves.

Justin Caloia, with 13 saves, and Sean Christiansen, with two saves, combined on the shutout for the Crusaders.

Tuesday, February 22

Division 1 quarterfinals

Clarkstown 3, BYSNS 2

In a Division 1 quarterfinal game at second-seed Clarkstown, Terrance Reed scored the game-winner with just 4:47 remaining in regulation and AJ Levy recorded the win with 30 saves.

Goals by Nick Romeo and Matt Doherty had given Clarkstown a 2-0 lead after one period,

Jacob Gasparini halved the Clarkstown lead with a second-period goal and Jonathan Graham tied the score at 2 early in the third for the Herd.

Chase Chalfin had two assists and Sam Soblerand Romeo each had one assist for Clarkstown.

Hart Nullet, Callahan Duff and Gasparini each had an assist for the seventh-seed combined Brewster/Yorktown/Somers/North Salem squad, known as the BYSNS (as inBisons) or Herd.

Ty Wingfield had 23 saves for the BYSNS, who finished the season 13-7-2.

Clarkstown, now 18-3-1, will host sixth-seed Mamaroneck Thursday in a Division 1 semifinal game.

Scarsdale 8, North Rockland 0

In a Section 1 Division 1 quarterfinal game at fifth-seed Scarsdale,Brian Nicholas scored five times and had two assists and Ian Silberstein had two goals and an assist.

Jack Greco also scored.

Sam Horner had two assists and Lev Mizukovski, Lee Kleinman, Freddy Kushnick and Greco each had one assist.

Matt Dworkowitz had 32 saves for 13th-seed North Rockland, which finished the season 5-13-4.

Scarsdale, which isnow 11-8. will face top-seed Suffern away Thursday in a D1 semifinal game.

Suffern 12, Rivertown 0

In a Section 1 Division 1 quarterfinal game at top-seed Suffern, Ryan Schelling had a hat trick and four assists and Jack Flatley scored twice and had one assist.

Patrick Marina, Ben Burns, JohnScavetta, James McCafferty, Zach Freeman, Calden Sullivan and Cole Tyrrell each had one goal.

Wyatt Levy had three assists, Dan Greco, Colin Nolanand Burns each had two assists and Chris Smith,Tyler Pomerantz,Charlie Windwer, Patrick Marina, Sulli and Freemanhad one assist apiece.

Ryan O'Hagan had 28 saves for eighth-seed Rivertown, which finished the season 13-6.

Ty Levy (three saves), Jimmy Rorro (two saves) and Nick Downey (one save) combined on the shutout for the Mounties.

Suffern, now 16-1, will host fifth-seed Scarsdale in a D1 semifinal game Thursday.

Stef Capasso stopped 27 shots to record the shutout and Chris Stackhouse and Colin Ingalls both had a goal and two assists as the Crusaders clinched the Catholic league Division A regular-season title.

Anthony Girolamo, Luke Walsh and Lenny Spano also scored.

Luke Nestor and Capasso both had an assist.

James Palma had 33 saves for Kellenberg.

Stepinac is now 14-1 in CHSAA play with an away game scheduled for Wednesday against St. Joseph

Monday, February 21

Division 2 quarterfinals

John Jay-Cross River 10, Pearl River 1

In a D2 quarterfinal at third-seedJohn Jay-CR, OwenScinicariello had a hat trick andKyle Petschek andWalter Oestreicher both scored twice.

PJ DeNoia, Scotty MacDonald and Hudson Siegel also scored.

Petschek had three assists, Colman Rice had two assists and Kenny Irving, Dougie Styles, Sean Lenahan,Scinicariello, DeNoia and MacDonald each had one assist.

Brendan Hunter scored off a .Ryan O'Neill assist for the No. 6-seed Pirates, who finished the season 4-15-2.

Jack Galvin had 31 saves and Brendan Hurley had one save for Pearl River.

Dylan Rogers had 12 saves for the 13-7-1Wolves, who'll play at second-seed Rye in Thursday's D2 semifinals.

Rye 17, Byram Hills 0

In a D2 quarterfinal game at second-seed Rye, 12 Garnets scored, led by Foster Richardson andLiam Draddy, who both had hat tricks.

Reece Dorfman and Brendan O'Byrnescored twice.

Henry Bagley, Eric Lynch, Tommy Richardson, Cater Barford, Lukas Bovaara, Jaxson Doornick and Cal McLoughlin each had one goal.

Dempsey Brown had three assists, Brian Curran, Bovaara and Dorfmanhad two assists apiece and Dean Kim, Lucas Tsuchida, Nathan Tietjen, Jackson Leahy, Tommy Richardson, Bagley, Barford and O'Byrne each had one assist.

Marcus Forcino had 27 saves and Aidan Padley had three saves for the seventh-seed Bobcats, who endedtheir season 5-16.

Rye, now 17-3-1, will host third-seed John Jay-Cross River Thursday in a D2 semifinal game.

Pelham 16, Nyack/Tappan Zee 1

In a D2 quarterfinal game at top-seed Pelham, Ben Rosenberg and Louie Marcellino both scored five times.

Jordan Hurd and Angus Deeney eachhad a pair of goals and Luke Greenand Dean Shannon both scored once.

Reid Finster and Marcellino eachhad three assists, Chris Franchini, Dan Mitrione, Zyde Karame, Mark Rosa and Green had two assists apieceand Will Crotty, Eric Elbery, Mark Tarazi, Deeneyand Hurd had one assist each.

Jack Finn scored off a Nico Gonzalez assist for eighth-seed Nyack/TZ, which finished the season 3-12.

Matt Barnard had 45 saves for Nyack/TZ.

Pelican keeper Chris Ripoll had seven saves.

Pelham, now 15-2-2, will host fourth-seed, 9-10-1 Horace Greeley in a D2 semifinal game Thursday.

Division 1 first round

Clarkstown 11, Fox Lane 2

At No. 2 Clarkstown, Andrew Fenninger scored twice and had four assists and Nick Romeo also had a pair of goals andtwo assists.

Dan Downey,Chase Chalfin, Brandon Chazan, Peter Serra, Matt Doherty, Sam Sobler and Tom Eager also scored.

Matt Mulrooney and Downey both had two assists and Vincent Michello, Jason Gusler, Alex Kaluzna, Sobler and Doherty each had oneassist.

Mikey Toole scored both goals for the 15th-seed Foxes, who finished the season 3-18.

Dan Rojas had 37 saves and Mitch Valente had six saves for Fox Lane.

Remy Moreno had seven saves, Athina Lambros had six saves and Ethan Dentz had two saves for 17-3-1 Clarkstown, which will host the No. 7-seed Brewster/Yorktown/Somers/North Salem (BYSNS) squad in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday.

BYSNS 8, New Rochelle 1

In a first-round D1 game at the No. 7 BYSNS, Jacob Gasparini had a hat trick, Sava Makarenko scored twiceand Ty Wingfield had 19 saves.

Hart Nullet, Charles Heese and Bryan Kottmann also scored.

Tom Eberhardt had three assists, Callahan Duff had two assists and Jaden Rothschild, Owen Cunningham, Jonathan Graham, Max Messina and Nullet each had one assist.

Andrew Tetro scoredthe No. 10 Huguenots' goal off assists from Sebastian Politano and Jason DeSalvo.

New Rochelle finished the season 13-8.

The Herd, now 13-6-2, will travel to Rockland County Tuesday to play No. 2 Clarkstown in the quarterfinals.

Mamaroneck 4, Cortlandt 2

At No. 6 Mamaroneck, Riki Takaya scored twice and Ari Shokrian and Jack Ramsay both had one goal.

Shokrian had three assists and Will Knowles, CJ Soropoulos and Ramsay each had one assist for the now-10-9-1 Tigers.

Jack Jimenez and Nate Garofalo scored for the No. 11 Rebels.

Fox Perelson assisted on Garofalo's goal.

Goalie Aaron Hathaway kept Rebels, who finished the year9-9-1,in the game, stopping 42 shots.

Max Baker had 12 saves for Mamaroneck, which will play at No. 3 White Plains in a D1 quarterfinal game Tuesday.

North Rockland 2, Mount Pleasant 1

At No. 4 Mount Pleasant, the 13th-seed Red Raiders pulled off the upset behind Matt Dworkowitz's 44-save performance.

Austin Lupo scored unassisted for the Red Raiders in the second period afterassistingon Jack Cahill's first-period goal.

Jack Woodhead also assisted on that score.

Joey Engelman scored for Mount Pleasant off assists from Noah Whitney and Aidan Schutt.

John Sarfaty had 14 saves for the Ice Cats, who finished the season15-4-1.

North Rockland, now 5-12-3, will play at No. 5 Scarsdale Tuesday in a quarterfinal game.

Rivertown 8, ETBE 2

At No. 8 Rivertown, Ryan O'Hagan stopped 41 shots and Braedon Gallante and Anthony Cappello both had two goals and two assists.

Alex Zinman, Ethan Pakola, Aidan Maffucci and Dylan Harrison also scored.

Matthew Davies and Zinman both had an assist.

Hero Schmidt scored both goals for ETBE, the combined Eastchester/Tuckahoe/Bronxville/Edgemont squad.

Luke Arrighi had two assists and Seb Henderson had one assist.

Alex Clark had 12 saves for the No. 9-seed Eagles, who finished the season 11-7-1.

The Legends, now 13-5, will play at No. 1 Suffern in a quarterfinal game Tuesday.
