Sheila takes on the Top Job!

The Staffordshire Band are proud to announce that Sheila Draycott has been appointed the new Principal Cornet of the Band with immediate effect, taking over from stalwart, Adrian Lacey who reverts to his more natural position of Bumper-Up.

She started playing cornet at the age of 5, following in the footsteps of her famous brass-playing brothers, Martin and Brian Winter and has played with numerous bands over the years including South Midlands Welfare, Newhall, Ind Coope, Loughborough Town (under the direction of Bud Fisher MBE), Ancient Order of Foresters, Rhodian Brass, Ratby Co-Operative, Jaguar Land Rover and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (for 13 courses!).

Sheila said, 'It is an honour and pleasure to accept the Principal Cornet chair at The Staffordshire Band and I look forward to leading the Band in the best way I can, and in making great music for all our audiences to enjoy.'

Band Chairman Shaun Elliott said, 'Since Sheila joined the Band a few years ago, her performances were been outstanding either in tutti or solo and although she took a short sebbatical, we are delighted to welcome her back and take on the challenge of taking over the End Chair of the Band. She has all the qualities of being an brilliant Principal Cornet who will delight audiences and adjudicators alike!

Credit and thanks must also go the Adrian Lacey who took over the Principal Chair several years ago and has done a superb job in leading the Band through some very successful times indeed.'
