'Instant Concert' was the first ever recording done by the Band, back in 1979.

Featuring the talents of David King on Cornet and Barrie Le Maistre on tenor Horn, the 11 tracks show off the versitility of the Band - conducted by Peter Bright.

This recording was done at Grosvenor Studios, Birmingham with John R. Taylor as Producer.

This recroding is only available on vinyl record.

About the Programme...

'Conquest' - written by Derek 'The Floral Dance' Broadbent (Wright & Round) is a terrific start to any programme and especially this recording, which was made shortly after the Band qualified for the National Brass Band Championship Finals (Second Section) in London. The natural piece to follow any march is an overture and here is a super example, Rossini's 'Tancredi', arranged by William Rimmer (F.Richardson Limited). Next, something to slow the pace and relax the emotions - what better than 'Lara's Theme' by Maurice Jarre, arranged by Derek Broadbent (Robbins Music Corporation). The first soloist of this recording is now featured - Principal Cornet, David King gives a bravura performance of the difficult solo, 'The Paragon' by E.Sutton (F.Richardson). Another piece by Derek Broadbent slows the pace once again - 'So Very Close to Me' (Logo Songs) is a super little number. The final item on the first side is the pulsating 'African Waltz' by Galt McDermott, arranged by that man again, Derek Broadbent (Key Music).

The title track for the recording says it all and starts the second side - 'Instant Concert' by Harold L.Walters (Rubank Inc.) is a collection of many, many tunes blended together - see how many you can count! Barrie Le Maistre on Tenor Horn is the final featured soloist with the brilliant 'Feelings' by Morris Albert arranged by Derek Ashmore (Maurice Music). Next is a truly fantastic arrangement by Ray Woodfield of that most traditional of tunes, 'Scarbarough Fair'. Reginald Heath is a name many will recall, and he wrote a simple, but beautiful tune called 'A Walk in the Sun' (Wright & Round), which slows the pace once again. Finally, 'Instant Concert' finishes with the rousing 'Sweet Gingerbread Man' by Michel Legrand arranged by Eric Banks (Big 3 Music).
